2011

          One more day till 2011! :) Before the year ends, reminisce on the things that have happened in 2010. Recall all the memories that you have, even the sad ones since these events contribute to who you are right now.

          Don’t forget to thank all the people that you have met this year, those who made you smile, and laugh. Those who cheered you up when you were feeling sad. Also, the real friends that you have stuck with who could see behind the fake smile that you have and would hug you when they know you need one.

          Thank all the enemies that you had met this year for without them, you would not learn how to stand up and be a better person.

          More importantly, thank your parents and family for they are the ones who are there when you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world. They are the ones who had helped you be who you are now and has given you what you needed. They are the ones who backed you up when you thought you were all alone.

          For all those who had a great 2010, hopefully 2011 would also be the same for you. ;) But for those who had a bad year, learn from the experience and try not to commit the same mistakes again.

          If you had lost a friend or a special someone this year don’t worry because as the quote says, “Never long for anyone from the past. There is a reason why they never made it to your future.” This year, your goal is to learn to let go of the past which continues to hurt you since there would certainly be something or someone better for you.

          For the students whose new year’s resolution is not to procrastinate anymore, GOOD LUCK! :))

          For the ones had their hearts broken, learn to let go and just think that the person is not worth it or just think that the person you love is happy. If you did not meet a person that made your heart skip a beat this year, 2011 might be the year. :-bd

          So before the year ends give your friends and family warm hugs and remember to remind them how special they are to you. Talk to the enemies that you had and try to start over again by forgiving them or apologizing. Forget all the things that you regret doing and think of it as an experience that made you a better you.

The Clock's Ticking

It will be Christmas in less than 5 hours.  Cellphones will be flooded with various Christmas greetings.  Dining tables will be filled with food for Noche Buena.  The sky will be adorned with colorful fireworks.  Christmas carols will be heard all over the place, be it from stereos or from kids on your doorsteps.  This is pretty much the typical scenario before, during, and after Christmas.

But what is Christmas really all about?

If I remember correctly, Christmas is the birth of Jesus.  So technically, we should be celebrating for His birth.

In the past years, I've heard people celebrate Christmas, not for Jesus, but for themselves.  To them, Christmas is the time to get all those gifts they've wished for.  It's the time for hunting down ninongs and ninangs for aguinaldo.  There's a whole lot of me-talk going on that people tend to forget the real reason for this celebration.

If you're guilty of this, you might as well make up for it.  Go to the Midnight Mass tonight.  Repent for your sins.  Give thanks for being able to celebrate another Christmas.  And if you can, give to those who aren't as lucky as you are.  That way, you can also give the Lord up there.

First things first.

This may seem awkward since this blog's obviously different from the other blogs from our class.  But as what our URL states, "we all need variety".

You may be wondering though what this blog has to offer.  Most blogs nowadays dwell on just a single subject, and believe me, it can get old and boring.  What we will try to do here is cover everything you can see in all their blogs, restricted by the current season we are in.

Right now, as you might have noticed, we've been posting stuff about Christmas because it's almost Christmas time.  And that's how we keep up with this blog's virtue.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Enjoyed the video? It was from Youtube and it has about 5M hits, the time I watched it. Though I was really after the Twelve Days of Christmas song, I ended up with this, which is really cute and cool, and the truth behind the classic "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

According to Dennis Bratcher on his article at www.crivoice.org, the said classic song, which refers to the 12 days before Christmas, December 25, for popular belief is really intended for the 12 days from  Christmas until Epiphany, January 6. The real 12 days of Christmas is December 26 to January 6, Epiphany or the time when the three Wise Men or Magi arrived to give present to Jesus Christ. 

More truth from Bratcher, the "true love" mentioned in its lyrics is not the earthly suitor, but God Himself while "me" refers to the baptized person who is part of the of Christian Faith. Fascinating, isn't?

Bratcher also told in his article that each presents mentioned in the song have there very own meaning.

The next time you sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas"  or heard from the carolers singing it in front of your house, it is not a classic, simple song because you know its meaning.

The First Christmas You Remember Having

The first Christmas you remember having is the greatest day of your life.

Your family's all together, there are loads of presents, cookies.

The magic is alive and well.

But before you know it you grow up.

Work and school and girlfriends take over and Christmas becomes more of an obligation, a reminder of what's lost instead of what's possible.

And all of the trees and the presents and even the mistletoe can't change that.

And then when you get to my age...

You're so desperate to get that magic back, you'd do anything to be able to feel how you did that first Christmas.

You think you are the star of Christmas, having so many presents under your family's Christmas tree or having so many Christmas parties to go to or just bothered not having a special someone you can hug during this cold season. Well, try to think again of what Christmas is for.

I don't want this first blog post to be cruel since we all enjoy Christmas and I'd like to promote optimism here, but we all have to remember that Christmas is Jesus' birthday and to thank God, His Father, that He gave us His only Son. That is His way of showing His love to us.

That said, God also gave us to our parents who loved when we first had our first Christmas with them. Our houses became homes; the family was full of happiness and love. Then later on, as we grew older we forgot how to make people, other than ourselves, happy, even our parents.

So try to think of the first Christmas you remember having. Then think of the Christmas you remember when you spent your time giving to others, if there really was any. 

Don't worry if you do not have that yet; you still have this coming Christmas to start, not unless you want to wait until you've grown a lot older and be desperate to get that magic back.
